Trumpcare Cuts Medicaid to Enable a Tax Cut for the Wealthiest Americans

PAINTED POST, N.Y. – In response to the Congressional Budget Office (CBO) score for the Senate's version of Trumpcare, released Monday, congressional candidate Rick Gallant issued the following statement:

“The Senate bill cuts $772 billion from Medicaid through 2026. This will have a devastating effect on people in our district, especially children, elderly people, and people with disabilities. In addition, the CBO estimates that the Senate bill will result in 15 million additional people uninsured in 2018. By 2026, the number of people uninsured is projected to rise to 49 million (22 million more than it would be under current law). Trumpcare will increase already high health costs for New York families and kick an estimated 68,300 in the district off of their health coverage. It also guts key protections for patients, adds a crushing age tax, and steals money from Medicare, all to allow a tax cut for the wealthiest Americans. Congressman Tom Reed voted for Trumpcare and will be held accountable for its negative effects on the American people.”
